6 Tips For Your Best Music Year Ever

by Stephanie Brooks With the ushering in of a new year, many people look to the time as a fresh start – a chance to reflect upon the previous one and plan for the upcoming. Many vow to change their health habits in January, while others focus on their relationships or attempt to learn a new skill. So what better time to embrace positive change for your music? From small-scale – like learning to tune your own instruments – to life-altering — like moving your family to Nashville to pursue a record deal – […]

In The News

Travis Mealing put together his annual top ten list of names in the news from Simcoe Country. Making the list were both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, (Gerry Marshall and Stephan Kramp respectively), Adam Dixon, a local hockey hero, and several others in sports, modeling and film making. Also making Mealing’s list was country music singer Amy Rose. To quote the Mirror; “The past year was a significant one for the Midland singer, who was nominated for the Rising Star award at the inaugural Country Music Association of Ontario awards. She topped that by receiving the Independent Country Music Association award as top emerging artist, and the country entertainer-of-the-year award at the inaugural International Music and Entertainment Association awards. In another career highlight, Rose opened […]

Behind the Board Beard!

Every month we feature a member of the Board of Directors so you can get to know the people working on your behalf here at the CMAO. This month’s featured Director is none other than Santa Claus. At this time of year, he hasn’t got much time to come to meetings as he’s busy cooking up something big for everyone. But rest assured, his leadership abilities and extensive experience are in constant demand at the CMAO. He only makes one public appearance a year, and that will be later this month. Look for him on the evening of the 24th. He’s the one Director that tries to meet each member personally. Here’s a brief bio of his accomplishments: Originally one of the “Kringle Singers” he’s […]

CMAO welcomes columnist Dave Woods

In The Country with Dave Woods I’ll let my first article for the CMAO newsletter serve as an introduction. I host an online radio show called In The Country. Broadcasting since March of 2009 from Ontario, the show airs live twice weekly – with plenty of podcasts available if you’ve missed any! I’ve interviewed hundreds of the biggest names and rising stars in Country music from Canada and around the world. And of course, many of those guests have been Ontario Country artists. I love having the opportunity for longer form interviews (30 to 60 minutes) to allow the artists to share stories and insight into what drives them to make music. One of the main answers seems to be: they have no choice. The […]
