The small-town-girl turned big-city-singer-songwriter story sounds like a song itself, or maybe a lifetime movie, but for Sarah Wickett, it’s just real life.
The Beaverton, ON, native made the move to Toronto in her teens as a college freshman and that’s when she took her music from hobby-at-home to country music releases. Sarah’s love for music started young, with inspiration from artists like Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera helping to craft her own sound. And with her small-town roots at the heart of her songwriting, she’s got country music flowing through her art.
Sarah Wickett’s 2020 has been a lot like everyone else’s in the music world – disrupted. But that hasn’t stopped her from releasing new music to the world. In February, she released Did It For Me and then followed that up with Friday Night In. Those two tracks have racked up nearly 90,000 plays on Spotify and YouTube, with more sure to come.
And in mid-July Sarah will release her third single of the year, What We Do, to add to her catalogue’s new chapter. What We Do is a gentle, sexy, summer love song that feels like sunsets on the beach, or a blanket in the shade, or a night on the couch. It’s a smooth listen that will be a great fit for playlists; and if country fans are looking to add to their Songs of Summer 2020 collections, we’d suggest this one.
Over the last six years, Sarah Wickett has released a dozen singles (What We Do makes 12), including her version of Santa Baby for Christmas 2019. She’s shared the stage with Canadian country artists, including Bobby Wills, Wes Mack, and more. And she’s played venues like The Opera House, Casino Rama, the Smoke & Spurs Festival, and Kempenfest. While none of us knows how things are going to shake out in the music industry over the coming months, we do know that Sarah continues to work on new music, create Vlogs on her YouTube channel, share behind-the-scenes-content with her fans on social media and build her audience as she goes.
We’ll be staying tuned to see what she’s got coming. We recommend that you do, too.
