Artist of the Month: Karli June

pc: Hannah Marie

Karli June introduced herself to the Canadian country music scene in 2016 when her singles, Black & White and Setting Me on Fire, were both distributed to radio. Now, she’s ready to kick off 2020 with the release of her newest song, Say Too Much, on January 24.

Over the last five years, the Listowel, ON native has been putting in work playing shows with artists like Dierks Bentley, Jason Blaine, Brett Kissel and Terri Clark. But she was a performer even before that. Like many other artists, Karli started singing in the church choir and then moved on to local fairs and signing competitions. By the time she was a teenager, she was taking piano, taught herself how to play the guitar, and started writing songs.

She is the embodiment of truth that there is no such thing as an overnight success.

For Karli June, 2020 starts with the release of Say Too Much, co-written by Francesca ‘Francci’ Richard, Hailey Collier, and Scott Chesak (All American Rejects). But it doesn’t end there. Karli is working on her debut EP with Fraser Hill (James Barker Band, Wes Mack, One More Girl, Serena Ryder), and we’re hopeful that we’ll get that before the end of the year.

When commenting about Say Too Much, Karli says, “It’s really about wearing your heart on your sleeve and just going with it, which is something everyone deals with. Sometimes things don’t happen when you’re expecting them to. They happen when, and in the way, they’re supposed to.” That sounds like country music to us.

When she’s not in the studio, expect Karli June to be on stage, honing her craft, singing her heart out, and sharing her new music with country music fans. On March 20, she’ll be sharing the stage with Jade Eagleson at her hometown Listowel Memorial Arena for Paddyfest 2020. And while they aren’t yet listed online, we expect there will be many more shows added to her 2020 schedule.

There’s a lot for Karli June to look forward to as we enter into the new year. Online, she hasn’t held back the fact that she’s excited about her new single, her Paddyfest show, and more.
