In The Country with Dave Woods: One On One With Scotty Kipfer

Congrats on your new album Taking My Time! How does it feel to have this collection of songs out for people to enjoy? Thank you! It’s been a long time in the making, so it’s a great feeling to finally have it out in the world. There’s an awesome collaboration on the album with The Western Swing Authority on the song, “May The Good Lord Take A Liking To You”. How did they become a part of this song? I’ve been kicking around the Canadian country music industry for quite a while, and I’ve known the WSA gang for years – in fact, I first met Peewee when I started my career in radio when I was 17. Chappy has played on a bunch of […]

In The Country with Dave Woods: One On One With Amanda Jordan

Congratulations on being a Kick It With Kissel winner, which has you opening for Brett Kissel on February 24th in Sudbury. How excited are you for that? I’m so excited! I was surprised when I opened the email saying that I had been selected. There were so many other great auditions and I wish I could bring all the other contestants with me to perform. There is so much great talent in Ontario and all across Canada, and I’m so grateful. I’ll be doing a twenty-minute set, performing some of my originals and a couple of covers. I hope to release my new single “Driving in the Dark”, which I co-wrote with Phil Barton and Jason Matthews in April this year, to Canadian country radio. What […]

In The Country with Dave Woods: One On One With Dani Strong

Tell me about one of your influences and how that artist has shaped you. Currently, Kacey Musgraves is a massive inspiration to me as a SONGWRITER. Kacey doesn’t seem to give a rip about what she does and does not “sell”. I really admire anyone who does what they want, because it is the art they want to create. In the “beginning”, when I was a kid, I always listened to older music. My mom must have thought I was on drugs. All my friends were listening to Our Lady Peace and The Offspring (we really only had one radio station in rural British Columbia), and I went and bought Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty and wore the S*$% out of that album and the […]

In The Country with Dave Woods: One On One With Brooklyn Roebuck

Brooklyn, tell us about your main influences and why those artists mean so much to you. My main musical influences are the Dixie Chicks, Pink and Taylor Swift. Each one of them is a very talented writer. They have a great ability to tell a story and make you feel what they are going through in their songs. Pink and Taylor go one step further for me, though. I am all about the show. The creativity these two artists have and how they leave their audiences in awe at their live shows is the kind of artist I strive to be. What have you learned about songwriting since writing your first song? Songwriting is such a journey. It’s amazing how much your writing can evolve […]

SHAE DUPUY: BRAVE NEW MUSIC

“Country is what I grew up listening to and I’ve always had a soft spot for it in my heart,” Shae Dupuy says. “What I love most is the storytelling aspect to the songwriting that goes hand-in-hand with country music. There’s a little more depth to the songs you’re hearing on country radio than what you’re typically hearing in the pop genre. Although I love writing catchy songs, I don’t think my heart would ever be fully into writing songs with no real meaning.” Along with 5 new tracks written in Nashville, her new EP Brave includes Shae’s previous singles “Drink About It” and “Tin Man,” which have earned her two nominations at the 2016 Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) Awards in the Rising Artist […]

MEGHAN PATRICK: EQUAL PARTS GRACE & GRIT

Born and raised in Bowmanville, Ontario, Meghan Patrick has dedicated her entire life to music, always wanting it to be more than just a passion. “I was drawn to playing guitar so I could start writing music to go along with the words I was writing. I wanted to be self-sufficient as a creative artist.” Prior to setting out as a solo artist, Meghan was the lead singer of the popular roots act The Stone Sparrows. A newgrass / bluegrass band, The Stone Sparrows released an EP and a full-length album before the members parted ways amicably in 2013 after playing their second Boots and Hearts Festival. Meghan has quickly made a name for herself since signing to Warner Music Canada. She has recently signed a  publishing […]

RIVER TOWN SAINTS: GOING A LONG WAY IN COUNTRY MUSIC

Their beginnings may be rooted in small towns surrounding the Ottawa River, but there is nothing small about River Town Saints. A 5-piece, harmony-driven group with rock n’ roll roots and life-long friends, Chris Labelle, Chris McComb, Jeremy Bortot, Jordan Potvin and Daniel DiGiacomo, have every intention of proving that a little heart (and a lot of work) does, in fact, go a long way. Led by the strong vocals of Chris Labelle, River Town Saint’s unbeatable energy has already landed them on stage with Tim Hicks and the front page of the Hamilton Spectator. Since signing with Open Road Recordings, the band has shared the stage with The Road Hammers and opened for  Tim Hicks. This summer will see the group on the festival […]
