August 10, 2017Artist of the Month: The Reklaws
With a hot summer single, live summer shows, and a new music video on the way, The Reklaws are showing just how far these hometown kids have come.
The sister-brother duo of Jenna and Stuart Walker grew up on a working farm in Cambridge, ON, learning the value of hard work, persistence, and the realities that so many songs in country music talk about. Their passion for music came young and only grew as the siblings started writing and performing their own music. Stories of Jenna singing as soon as she could talk and Stuart learning to play the guitar at age nine are good indications that a career in music was inevitable for these two.
In 2013, The Reklaws were recognized for their talent and potential as CCMA Discovery Program artists, and as winners of the Emerging Artist Showcase contest at the Boots & Hearts country music festival. Those milestone moments helped push Jenna and Stuart into more songwriting – at home and on trips to Nashville. And those songwriting sessions spawned early singles, including: Kiss Kiss, Sun Drunk, and Seeing Stars.
In the years since those big moments, The Reklaws have kept on pushing, performing, writing, and furthering their career. The duo signed with Universal Music Canada, and released one of the catchiest jams of the summer, Hometown Kids. The single has become a fan favourite, landing on playlists and in the spotlight of many outlets… including a spot as the only country track on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Summer Mix for Spotify.
The pair has had a busy summer, with shows at Toronto’s Budweiser County Fair and Canadian Music Week, London’s Western District Fair, and Bala’s The Kee To Bala. And, the pair will also be performing at their hometown Cambridge Ribfest on August 10th.
We don’t have the details to share with you right now, but we’re sure that there’s more new music coming soon from Jenna and Stuart Walker. The momentum that they’ve created for themselves in the summer of 2017 is surely just the start of something much bigger and very exciting for The Reklaws. And you know what – they deserve it. We’ve been lucky enough to see the growth in the duo over these past few years, and every step along the way, we’ve been seeing, hearing, and celebrating the same talent and potential that pushed them forward in 2013.
Keep an eye on The Reklaws; they’re going places, and you should tag along for the ride.
