Artist of the Month: Roslyn Witter

It was back in 2014 when Roslyn Witter had the experience of a lifetime that assured her that she was on right career path. She signed with Slaight Music and won a singing contest that was hosted by a radio station. The contest awarded her the incredible opportunity to sing a duet with Keith Urban for his then-upcoming concert in Hamilton, ON. The major country icon recognized her talent by kneeling in appreciation and surprising her with an autographed guitar that he later mailed to her. The guitar is a permanent display in her living room!

Witter not only grew up appreciating country music; she was born into it. Her Dad, Jim Witter, had ten Top 10 hits (“Distant Drum”, “Everything and More” and “Stolen Moments”) on Canadian Country Charts from 1993 to 2000. During this time, he took her on the road where she occasionally joined him on stage. She claims that is how she got a taste for the lifestyle and became a fearless performer.

While establishing herself in the industry, Roslyn is making it clear that she is not following the norms. She makes a conscious effort to express natural options, and opinions, that may not align with the current trends. With her father’s guidance and a similar taste in music, they have collaborated on putting together a style that is true to her nature and she is excited to share! Witter explains, “Country has always spoken to me because it’s about storytelling. The culture is warm and inviting and welcoming. I have a country twang to my voice that’s evolved naturally over the years. My voice is suited to it.”

In addition to her singer/songwriter career, Witter also showcases her creativity with her own photography business, based in Hamilton.

Check out her new upbeat debut single, “Good Vibes”, which she describes as “it makes you want to crack open a cool drink and have a great time. It has a festive feel for radio.” Also, keep an eye out for her EP, expected to release later this year!
