Anyone who follows Genevieve Fisher would probably notice that she doesn’t use the brakes much. Nope. Her foot’s on that long skinny pedal most of the time, taking some corners on two wheels.
If you’re counting, you will notice that Genevieve has charted 9 top 50 singles, with “Take It On Home” and “You Me We” climbing into Canada’s Top 20 and Top 30 respectively. She even invaded the Top 40 with two singles simultaneously: her duet with David James, “Then There’s You” and her solo release, “Playing Favourites”. London-born and raised, her Indigenous heritage qualified her to register three number one hits on the North American Indigenous Music Countdown chart.
Genevieve has carefully built a creative team around her, writing with some of country music’s best-known songwriters, including Jason Blaine, Steven Lee Olsen, Patricia Conroy, Michelle Wright, Jason Massey, Jennifer Schott and many more. She’s performed at Boots and Hearts, Lucknow’s Music In The Fields, Manitoulin Country Fest, Trackside and Aboriginal Day Live. Plus, she’s shared billing with stars like Hunter Hayes, Lee Brice, David Nail, Dean Brody and Great Big Sea.
Given all that, it’s no surprise she’s a multiple CMAOntario Awards Nominee – for Single of the Year in 2018 and Female Artist of the Year in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. The Canadian Country Music Association selected her to perform at CCMA’s Country Music Week several times: at the 2012 New Artist Showcase, the Songwriters Series in both 2016 and 2018, and at the 2021 Gala, where she performed “Neon Healing”.
Although 2021 was a challenging year for all of us, Genevieve turned that challenge into multiple opportunities. Deciding that the Covid lockdown wasn’t going to lock her down creatively, she dove into developing her piano skills for solo-songwriter-style performances. She also beefed up her home studio gear and recorded the vocals for both “Then There’s You” and “Neon Healing” at home, sending them to her Nashville producer and co-writer Jason Massey (producer for Kelsi Ballerini) for editing and mixing.
Speaking of “Neon Healing”, Genevieve and her team are promoting the song as her first radio single campaign of 2022. And, you may have heard her version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” while you were on your way to pick up the turkey. Somehow, she finds time to enjoy a happy life as a recently married new mother.
As if she’s not busy enough, Genevieve is working on both a new album and a Christmas album for 2022! Yup – no dust on Genevieve Fisher.
