Ontario’s Country Music Pioneers: Bob Lucier

Oakville’s Nicole Rayy has worked hard to reach new heights and recognition in her country music career. With the release of her recent single, Broken Boys, and her 2020 EP, All Woman, she’s showing everyone that she’s certainly well on her way to becoming a known and celebrated artist in Ontario and beyond.
The 2020 Country Music Association of Ontario Female Artist of the Year nominee has been busy during the pandemic. She’s released new music, done press rounds to promote it, performed in live streams and at drive-in concerts (including the CMAOntario Awards in London, ON), creating her own opportunities with HarmoniaFest, and more.
None of this busy schedule is new to Nicole. Her career has already taken her to big Canadian festivals and shows like the Calgary Stampede, Trackside, opening for Brett Kissel and Aaron Pritchett, and even travelling to China to play in Shanghai at The World Music Festival for four years in a row (2015-2018). It’s not an understatement to say that music has taken her across the world, or that she has taken Canadian country music to fans that most artists haven’t. And those are pretty great things to be able to hang her hat on.
But she’s not living in the past; she’s concentrating on the present and the future. When she released her newest single, Broken Boys, she said, “I’m so excited to share Broken Boys because I think it is a song so many of us can relate to. We have all fallen for that person that we think we can change. I’ve always been drawn to helping people and being able to fix things. But in a way this song reminds me that we are all a little broken and there is nothing wrong with helping someone carry their baggage, but never at the expense of yourself.” It’s that relatability that we always appreciate and hold onto in country music, because it’s the stories and the shared experience that makes country special. And Nicole Rayy is doing all of it with her Girl Power, pop-country, self-made efforts.
