Trading in a hockey stick for a guitar may not have been the plan when Kris Barclay was growing up in the suburbs outside of Toronto, but it has turned into a pretty good move for the country singer/songwriter.
Barclay has been a busy dude in the last 18 months, working on a new EP that will showcase his singing and writing chops, and playing as many shows as there are stages across the province.
We’ve had the chance to see a few of those live shows, and we can tell you this: he’s exactly where he should be when he’s up on stage with the band. As an entertainer, it’s clear that Kris Barclay knows what to do with a crowd. Whether he’s at a town fair, or on stage at The Phoenix in Toronto during Canadian Music Week, he works for the attention, the entertainment, and the energy that the show needs and deserves. And when the music starts to play, everybody can get into a groove and fall into the moment.
With original tracks like Good Wine, Old Vinyl & You, Barclay has given country fans a glimpse of what he’s got up his sleeve. And with writing credits on songs like James Barker Band’s Living The Dream, the Ajax native is well on his way to carving out a spot in the Canadian country music landscape.
As much fun as Kris Barclay has been having in the last few months, the days coming up are sure to raise the bar. With shows booked through July, August, and September, Barclay is set to play in front of new fans across Ontario. And August 17 to 20, he’ll be front and centre at the 2017 Havelock Country Jamboree.
Kris Barclay and his band are scheduled to play at the Jamboree’s Kick Off Party, and then he’ll take over as host for the weekend. It’s a big gig for the up-and-coming artist, and one that he doesn’t take for granted. We asked him about it and here’s what he told us…
“I am truly honoured to be part of The Havelock Jamboree – it is such a major and historic event. I am so proud just to be included on the roster with such amazing artists, but to have the opportunity to host is incredible. Looking back at their history, my idols have, and continue to, perform on the iconic twin stages year after year, and I know I have some huge boots to fill, but I am so excited and grateful. This will be a weekend I will never forget!”
If you’re looking for a new name to put on your “Ones to Watch” list, we recommend Kris Barclay. He’s coming.
