Artist of the Month: Ty Baynton

Ty Baynton is a small town Ontario boy, growing up an hour outside of downtown Toronto in Waterdown, but that hasn’t stopped him from making it to the big city and beyond with his own country music.

The first time we saw Baynton live on stage was at the Boots & Hearts Music Festival as a finalist in the 2014 Emerging Artist Showcase. In the three years since, we’ve had the chance to see Baynton grow as an artist, a performer, and we’ve had the chance to catch up with him at the jewel of Canadian country at Canadian Country Music Week 2016 in London.

Baynton counts Randy Travis as one of his earliest influences. When we spoke with him at the CCMAs, he told us that he still remembers the songs he learned and sang along to as a child. And while Baynton is his own songwriter and singer, it’s not hard to see how his early influences, including Travis, Tom Petty, and English rockers, Oasis, have helped to guide him to where he is as an artist today.

The summer of 2017 has been good to Ty, with the release of his brand new single, I’ll Never Know, and shows including a stop at the Northern Comfort Saloon at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. It’s great to see the Ontario country crooner see these successes, but even he knows that it only comes as the result of putting in hard work.

Recently Baynton was quoted in an interview with haltonempire.com as saying, “A lot of people will see an artist and seem to think that they come out of nowhere, but if they actually knew that person, they’d know they’ve been playing in bars for eight to ten years and have been putting in the time…” We know that Baynton is proud to be another on a long list of artists that have played those bars, fairs and festivals – and just like many before him, it’s paying off.

This small town boy with the big voice is poised to make even greater strides in the future, with these summer of 2017 achievements being just the start of the next exciting chapter in his life and career.
