Artist of the Month: David Boyd Janes

2021 Country Music Association of Ontario Male Artist of the Year nominee, David Boyd Janes, has been on a helluva ride over the last couple of years. And if you asked him about it, he’d probably start by telling you that Thoughts Become Things.

The Toronto country artist caught our attention in the summer of 2019 by putting himself in the spotlight – winning the Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase that August. Since then, we’ve seen him release a string of singles (that we hope are leading to an album) and watched him work through social media, building his base as an emerging artist.

In 2021, while he hasn’t been able to get on stage the way he or any other artist wishes they could, David Boyd Janes has still been able to rack up some accomplishments worth celebrating.

His single, Couldn’t Hurt (Warner Music Canada), became his first to debut on the Canadian Billboard Country charts in the Top 50 (entering at #47 and currently approaching the Top 40). He’s reached and surpassed 4 million digital streams worldwide, with new listeners coming in as more new music is released. And Janes was also named Pure Country’s Future Star for March and April, thanks to the strength of Couldn’t Hurt.

On top of that, like a cherry on top of a sundae, David Boyd Janes joins fellow nominees Tim Hicks, Andrew Hyatt, Aaron Allen and Darcy John for Male Artist of the Year in the 2021 CMAOntario Awards. It’s a good group to be in.

It’s a logical next step after his 2020 Rising Star award nomination and shows progress in his career, with his industry peers and country music fans. Artists are well-known for saying that being nominated is an honour when it comes to awards; and while winning is always the best part for anyone, we hope that David Boyd Janes sees that he’s being noticed by folks on both sides of the scene as one of the next spotlight stars in Ontario’s country music community.

We’ll be staying tuned for more from David Boyd Janes in 2021 and beyond. We recommend that you do the same.
