Artist of the Month: Bree Taylor

With her most recent single, Cry, Mississauga’s Bree Taylor continues her evolution from pop singer to emerging country music artist. The singer-songwriter’s move to the genre came in 2019 with the release of her singles, Turn It Up and Drive and as she moves forward, fans are taking notice.

With more than 70,000 views on the official music video for Drive, and another 55,000+ on the video for Cry (since its release in late February), Bree Taylor is earning the kind of early attention and appreciation that helps build a fanbase and set the stage for things to come. “Things to come” includes her debut country EP, which Bree has been recording and preparing for a release in the near future.

The industry has started to take notice as well. Bree was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2019 Mississauga Music Awards, and as we follow her progress, we won’t be surprised to see her name on more nominee lists. Her strong voice fits very well in the world of country music, and she’s a seasoned entertainer, even though she’s new to the genre. Yes, her previous pop career gave her experience on stage and in the studio, but it goes back farther than that – to her childhood in a choir, and her time at the Toronto Faculty of Music and Oakville Academy for the Arts.

It’s easy to appreciate Bree Taylor’s dedication to her craft and love for music. But there’s more. Bree also understands the importance and opportunity that music brings for giving back and raising awareness for great causes. She is a big supporter of organizations, including To Write Love On Her Arms and the Canadian Mental Health Association. When talking about Cry and vulnerability and wellbeing she said, “I connected with this song because it sends the message that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes… Don’t be afraid to show your emotions or to share your feelings with others because we are all dealing with something.”
