At the young age of 9, Augusta Ray first began her musical journey singing opera. She was quickly recognized as a child prodigy, wowing her audiences as she performed in three languages. Growing up a fan of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Shania Twain, Augusta formed the sound of her unique country-rock style from unique influences.
Known to friends and fans as “Gus”, Augusta Ray grew up in Toronto, and has been travelling between there and Nashville for the past 9 years, performing to Canadian and American country-rock fans. Some career highlights for Ray include sharing the stage with Trace Atkins, Brett Kissel, Tim Hicks, Jess Moskaluke and several others.
Gus recently released a new single: “Your Ex”. In a press release, she explains – “This song isn’t about taking a baseball bat to your ex’s headlights (referring to Carrie Underwood), but rather how sometimes finding happiness is the result of cutting toxicity out of your life, and how THAT is actually the best possible revenge.” Good point, Gus! Ray refers to the song as “the most lyrically passive aggressive song on Canadian country radio right now”.
Last month, Ray set sail again as a performer with Carnival Cruise ships as a guitar soloist. Upon her arrival back in Ontario, she landed shows July 8th at Fionn McCools’ in Orillia and July 22nd at Fionn McCools’ in Bowmanville. “Your Ex” will make its live debut on an American stage at Nashville’s Bluebird Café on August 13th. This will be her third performance at the Bluebird as a featured songwriter.
Red lipstick enthusiast, Ray is also a proud mental health advocate, sharing messages of self-love and empowerment on her social media. Way to go, Augusta!!
