A Message from the President (March 2018)

I think one of those groundhogs was correct – it definitely looks like an early spring to me… at least, here’s hoping.

The first ballot has just closed for the 2018 Awards Show, and we are very pleased to announce that we have received over 1000 submissions, and our membership renewals have exceeded all our expectations. The second ballot (the first round of actual voting) will open in March, and thanks to everyone who sent submissions, renewed their membership or decided to join! Tickets for the Awards Show (June 3rd) are selling steadily, so if you have a seating preference, don’t put it off. To purchase, call 1-888-999-8980 or visit https://centennialhall.london.ca/london-event-listings.html

The Conference Committee is working on finalizing this year’s seminar panels – great topics, great panelists, lots of useful and relevant info. Look for the announcement of seminar information and participants in early March and don’t forget to register for the Conference (June 1st – 3rd in London) via our website.

A new event for our Festival and Awards weekend is the Legacy Gospel Celebration featuring Michelle Wright and Aaron Pritchett, along with some surprise guests. The event will take place on Sunday June 3rd, from 2pm-4pm at the beautiful Bishop Cronyn Memorial Place in downtown London.

If you are chasing some dollars to fund your next recording or cross country tour, hoping to enter your songs into a songwriting competition, or seeking showcase opps at festivals and conferences, check out FYI (www.fyimusicnews.ca), which has just released the Calendar of Grant and Funding Deadlines for 2018. Good luck everyone and thanks, David!

Congrats to the CCMA and Sirius XM’s launch of the Top of the Country music competition. This competition will offer a national platform exclusively for emerging Canadian country artists. The cross-Canada search will give participating acts a chance to play at Canada’s most prominent country festivals and includes industry mentorship programs, a Socan songwriting camp in Nashville and a grand prize of $25,000 with an entry to a Socan songwriting camp in Pender Island, B.C. For more information or to register, go to (https://topcountry.siriusxm.ca/#Home) until midnight ET on March 2/18. The grand prize winner of Top of the Country will be chosen during the CCMA’s Country Music Week in Hamilton.

If you would like to submit industry-relevant information for inclusion in our monthly Newsletter, remember to send us a short synopsis, a photo or graphic and any hotlink that can be included in the news listing. The 20th of each month is the deadline for receiving items for the following month’s newsletter. Submissions can be sent to verle@cmaontario.ca. And, make sure the subject line reads “FOR INCLUSION IN CMAOntario NEWSLETTER”.
