Artist of the Month: Jessica Sevier
Jessica Sevier is literally checking in with her new single, “Motel”, released March 14th. Co-written with Andrew Allen (multi-platinum singer-songwriter) and Ron Lopata (Jully Black, Scott Helman, Matt Dusk), “Motel” is the mission plan for turning the tables on a toxic and abusive partner. “Your right hand left a hole in the wall, and now you’re calling out for me to stay. The old me mighta played that game, but it’s changing, oh I’m changing”.
It’s clear that Jessica had a vision for her path – as a child, she took piano and classical voice lessons, which led to her studies in classical voice at Western University in London, ON. Hungry to learn more about the recording process, she threw herself into an audio engineering course. Artists looking to fortify their toolbox against the challenges of the music business should take note of Jessica’s development example.
Since her 2019 debut single, “Ghost of Tom,” Sevier’s music left the million-stream mark in the rear view mirror a while ago. She’s shared stages with James Barker Band, Jason McCoy and Tim and the Glory Boys, and showcased at Nashville’s Whiskey Jam and Toronto’s Lee’s Palace.
Jessica has collaborated with an impressive list of co-writers to build her set list. Names like Karen Kosowski, Emma-Lee, Aaron Pollock, Serena Ryder, Robyn Ottolini and Derek Hoffman. Those people don’t open the door to just anyone.
With more dates to come, you can catch Jessica April 3, 2025, at the Canadian Dairy Expo, Stratford, ON; July 4, 2025 – Country at the Creek Festival, Big River, SK; July 26, 2025 – MacKenzie Creek Music Festival, Branford, ON and August 29, 2025, at the Smoke ‘n’ Spurs Festival in Mattawa, ON.
With a launch pad like that, she might end up owning that motel… and maybe the whole chain.
