Ontario’s Country Music Pioneers: Ken Post

KENNY (Ken) POST has been a musician (drummer) almost since “day one”… and is still one of the busiest at his trade today – a true “Pioneer”.

Ken was born on November 5, 1962, in Belleville, Ontario, the son of the late Norm Post, the patriarch of the renowned group “The Singing Post Family”. Young Kenny performed in the family band with sisters Joanne and Debbie. During the 1970s – 80s, they released a series of albums and were an in-demand act for many of the area’s festivals, church hall shows, and social events.

While still a teenager, Ken was often called upon to play drums behind several touring acts, including George Hamilton IV, Gordie Tapp, etc., and was soon hired to tour with the Johnny Burke & Eastwind band.

Ken Post quickly built a “first-call” reputation in the music world and landed gigs playing in bands headed up by Terry Sumsion, Marie Bottrell, Terry Carisse, Anita Perras, The Bobby Lalonde Band, and most notably, an eight-year run in support of the multi-award-winning “Family Brown” band, which included performances on the “Ronnie ‘n The Browns” TV Show.

Meanwhile, his talents as a drummer – as well as a gifted background vocalist – provided Ken with the opportunity to perform on recording sessions by numerous Canadian Country artists, including such notables as Dick Damron, Colleen Peterson, The Wilkinsons, Prescott-Brown, Susan Aglukark, Johnny Reid, Marie Bottrell, Barry Brown, Anita Perras… and the list goes on!!

In recent years, Ken Post has also participated in the “CP Holiday Train” excursions in aid of Food Banks across the country. During the tours, Ken has played behind such headliners as Randall Prescott and Tracey Brown, Jim Cuddy, Terri Clark, Doc Walker, and others. His work on the project can be heard on the Christmas albums “Heading Home For The Holidays” and “Holiday Train Tracks”.

For a bit of diversity, Ken has also been part of several Theatre productions written by Rob Asselstine of RGA Productions, including the shows Return To Grace, Country Classics, Cruising Classics, 6 Chix, Rave On and World Rock Symphony Orchestra.

Ken Post also keeps active, operating his own recording studio (Podium Music) in Washago, Ontario, where he has been developing the work of several new talents on the music scene. Ken is also the Music Director (and drummer) for the popular “Hollyrood Jamboree”, as well as the drummer in the critically-acclaimed tribute show – “The Alan Jackson Experience”.

Ken Post has also dabbled as a songwriter. His credits include the song “Cool Summer Day”, recorded by Debbie Graham Hoskins, a nationally-charted single in 1986.
