The Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) is proud to announce the finalnominees for its inaugural awards taking place on May 27th at the Markham Theatre, Markham, Ontario. Jason Blaine and Deric Ruttan lead the pack. Quinte’s Small Town Pistols follow with 5 nominations, Johnny Reid with 4 and Kira Isabella, The Stellas and Tebey tie at 3 apiece.
During a three-year time period, Ontario’s rich country talent has had a lot to talk about; which is why the CMAO decided on a longer eligibility period for the long-overdue inaugural awards, resulting in ten nominees per category instead of the customary five. The one-time eligibility expansion also opens the door to celebrating more of the province’s established artists and its rising stars. In addition, major market and secondary market country radio awards categories reflect Ontario country radio’s consistent support of provincial artists.
