Country Wild Music Festival Announced

The first Country Wild Music Festival, to be held Saturday, June 3 in Cobourg’s Victoria Park, was announced February 14th.

Hosted by Cobourg local residents Matt Williams and Andrew Hall of Cobourg Music Festivals Inc., the event aims to celebrate Canadian country music during Canada’s 150th birthday year celebrations.

Headlining this premiere event is Ontario natives Cold Creek County, who were nominated for the 2017 Juno Awards in the Breakthrough Group of the Year category.

Also performing at the one-day festival are Runaway Angel, a contemporary female power-trio from the GTA and Cobourg’s own, Gentlemen Husbands, who were signed to Universal Music Canada in 2013.

Many more artists are still to be announced.

Brittany Brodie’s Stock on the Rise in Country Music

The year 2017 is looking bright for a local rising star in country music.

Mount Forest’s Brittany Brodie was busy last summer and fall, performing at the Canadian Country Music Association’s Diamonds in the Rough showcase, and at IPM 2016, and has continued that momentum into 2017.

She is kicking things off with her latest release, Dreaming, which dropped on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The song was written by Brodie, Frazer Mac and Bill Bell, who also produced the song and works with acts such as Jason Mraz, Amanda Marshall and Tom Cochrane.

The trio wrote Dreaming during the Music Ontario Canadian Songwriter Challenge last August in Toronto. Brodie was one of six up-and-coming artists selected to participate in the three-day program.

Hamilton will be an “ass-kicking town” in 2018.

“We will make you proud,” said Tim Potocic, co-chair of the host community. “And you will not want to leave. We are an ass-kicking town.”

This will be the sixth time Hamilton has held the event, with the last time in 2011. This year’s awards are in Saskatoon.
