Blue Rodeo Receive GG Award

Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo

Blue Rodeo Receive GG Award

On Wednesday April 2nd, as part of the current crop of honourees of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Toronto’s Blue Rodeo.

Since their debut 30 years ago, Blue Rodeo has been a bright thread in the fabric of the Canadian music scene. Mixing the genres of country, pop, rock and Americana, it could be argued that they are one of the definitive ingredients of Canadiana. At the very least, they have influenced a lot of mainstream fans to take a closer look at country music.

Because much of the media’s attention has historically focused on Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, Cuddy expressed appreciation that the honour was bestowed on the entire band: “It’s for a lifetime of work, so it really takes in all the members that have played in Blue Rodeo.”
