Set Saturday January 25 aside in your calendar if you want to learn how to turn a talent into a career. Canada’s own Michelle Wright will be our featured guest. Michelle who performed on our inaugural awards show last May and who recently released the single ‘Strong” off her album of the same name, will be in Ontario doing charity work for World Vision Canada. Michelle is their honourary spokesperson of that organization. Michelle has always been one who gives back and she has graciously agreed to take part in our January Seminar to be held in Barrie at the Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, 107 Dunlop Street East. You’ll soon hear the announcements on our presenting radio station (CICX) KICX-106 radio and if you’re a CMAO member, you’ll be getting an email reminder.
What exactly is a Seminar/DemoRama? Well you can arrive at 9:30 for registration and then at 10:00AM settle in for a lively panel discussion about aspects of the music and entertainment industry. Moderated by former Attic Records and SOCAN Exec. Brian Allen, we have 3 or 4 of the industry’s top minds and experts in their fields to discuss their end of the business and how it can help and affect you. Typically publishers, agents, managers, label executives and publicity people make up our panel. Along with representation from radio and music producers. At the time of this writing we have also confirmed Amy Aust from KICX, Mike Denney from MDM Recordings and Michelle Wright and you’ll hear of the other panelists soon.
Rest assured they’ll be people you need to hear from to get your career to the next level. And after 90 minutes of discussion there’s a Q & A session. We take a short break and set up for our second panel discussion. This time with Michelle Wright, Canada’s multi-award winning queen of song. Michelle will take you through the steps and stages of her career and you’ll see how she got her start and how hard she’s worked and is still working. Mike Denney will explain how he started a successful label in this fickle economic climate. And again, there’ll time for a Q & A session at the end of the panel.
After a lunch break where you can network with the panelists there will be a DemoRama where you get a chance to let your song be heard in front of a panel of songwriters including Michelle herself. Please bring your song on a CD and 5 copies of the lyrics. This is not a ‘live performance’ opportunity. We will get through as many songs as we can but get yours in early as there may be many submissions. Also there will be food available for purchase or you’re free to go out to nearby eateries, but food is not included in the cost of the seminar. Cost is just $15 for CMAO members and $25 for non-members. For tickets or further info contact: https://cmaontario.ca
