Behind the Board- Randy Stark

Randy Stark came from the label side of the business. He was with Warner Music Canada for many years and worked his way up to Vice President of Marketing and Promotion – a position he did very well, as he was the person chiefly responsible for discovering and establishing talents like Patricia Conroy, Paul Brandt and the Johner Brothers. While still with Warner, he sat on the CCMA board of directors and eventually was elected President of that organization, which he held for 3 years. He was later elected to the board of directors of the CMA in Nashville. (This man is definitely connected).

Leaving the majors in 2003, Randy started Stark Ravings (Radio), an independent radio tracking company. Using his experience in marketing/promoting he figured he could hammer the radio music directors with product he felt strongly about. And it turns out, he figured right. He’s helped put over 30 songs into the “Top 10” on the charts. Randy’s clients have included Aaron Lines, Aaron Pritchett, Deric Ruttan, Gord Bamford, Jason Blaine and Jake Mathews. He currently also represents many of those same clients plus CCMA Hall of Famer Michelle Wright, and newcomer Kylee Epp, who wowed the crowd at the New Talent Showcases at the CCMAs this past September. That’s a lot of star power. In fact, Randy’s company controlled over 5% of the MediaBase label share the first half of the current year. That’s pretty amazing for an independent (as he was eclipsed only by the 4 major labels).

As if that weren’t enough, he also owns and operates TRAX Report – a weekly chart of the top 100 songs that are most played at Canadian Radio. It’s an invaluable tool for the industry, artists and fans. He sounds like a busy guy. Well he is. But, he still manages to make time for a couple of other things. He manages the careers of Jake Mathews and Jason Blaine! And as anyone in the business knows, it’s much more work managing a successful artist than it is a struggling one. But hard work is something Randy has never shied away from.

And, there’s one more thing Randy has added to his plate… He now sits on the Board of Directors of the Country Music Association of Ontario. We’re proud to have his experience, his contacts, his wisdom and his drive working for all of our membership. Welcome aboard Randy!
