Artist of the Month: Kentucky Rails

When asked why they picked the name Kentucky Rails, the members of the emerging Ontario country band all have the same answer to share…

“Kentucky Rails is a metaphor for an underdog/Cinderella story. Everyone is familiar with the Kentucky Derby, but what most people don’t know is that the horses up against the “rails” in the 1st and 20th lanes are at a strategic disadvantage in the race… The members of Kentucky Rails have been grinding their whole lives for the opportunity to showcase our own original music over a broad spectrum and we think that the meaning of the name is symbolic of the struggle that all artists go through in order to achieve that dream.”

That grind from band members Justin deGraaf, Ryan Pellicciotta, Zach McCabe, Dave Kirby, and Matt Soliveri, has led to some great opportunities so far in their early journey, and we’re willing to bet that we’ll be seeing a lot more of them in the near future.

Our first look at Kentucky Rails came in the summer of 2017 at the Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase, where these five dudes took control of the stage and let it all hang out in a performance that was clearly designed to both show off their talent, and engage the crowd.

Since then, the guys have had the chance to play more live shows at venues including Toronto’s Rock N Horse Saloon, The Rivoli, and London’s Cowboys Ranch, while they earn new fans along the way. The band has also released three songs to date, with 2017’s Wallet and Mexican Restaurant, and 2018’s Midnight Ride.

But, it has been Kentucky Rails’ recent trips to Nashville that have them feeling like they’re on their way.

While in the country music capitol, the band has worked with another Ontario native, Brad Stella, on new music that we can’t wait to hear. And if that’s not enough, Zac Brown himself gave the boys use of his studio for the recording sessions.

Kentucky Rails also hit the stage in Nashville, playing at the fabled Tootsie’s World Famous Orchid Lounge. And when they head back in April, they’ll be hitting the stage again at showcase events that could be the start of some big things.

Stay tuned!
