I hope you are enjoying the summer and getting a chance to see some of Ontario’s country talent live.
First and foremost in my July’s President’s message: I previously made an incorrect reference to Leah Daniels as our CCMA FanFest Contest winner; in fact, she was the CCMA Spotlight Winner. Please be advised Leah will perform at the CCMA Industry Lunch & Awards and the CCMA Pre-Show Countdown Concert. Sorry for the mix up.
Speaking of Leah Daniels, I want to thank everyone who voted to make Leah the national CCMA Spotlight Contest winner (I hope I got it right this time…). For the past three years, the CCMA has offered the CMAO and the other provincial associations the chance to send an artist to Country Music Week for a performance opportunity. This is the first year that an Ontario artist has won! We are extremely proud of Leah’s achievement and are extremely grateful to the CCMA for their leadership and support.
Our Annual General Meeting was held on July 19, 2014. I want to congratulate Samantha Pickard and Brian Hetherman, who are the newly-elected members of the Board of Directors. In addition I’m extremely pleased that Randy Stark, Bruce Good, Craig Parks and Cadence Grace were re-elected. Although we are welcoming two new members, we are saying goodbye to Peter Linseman and Jane Harbury. I want to thank Peter and Jane for their hard work and dedication to the CMAO. Both are incredible professionals and we are looking forward to continue to work with them in different capacities. Now that the new Board of Directors has been formed, we will get to work, as there is plenty to do for the upcoming year. The first item of business will be to deal with having two “Sams” and two “Brians” on the Board… this is going to get confusing.
As many of you know, the CCMA Awards nominees were released, and we are extremely proud of all the Ontario nominees. It’s clear that Ontario is on the rise with nominees in practically every category, including Deric Ruttan and Tim Hicks, leading with 4 nominations each.
The tickets are now available to The Road to Independence Conference. Scheduled for November 15th and 16th, it’s going to be an industry event that you don’t want to miss. We can confidently say that we will be offering two days of high value information and networking at a price far below most other conference admissions. Go and get your tickets, even if you’re not in the country genre, at: http://www.ticketbreak.com/event_details/7762.
