A Message From the President

Sam_209x300Dear Members:

As many of you already know, the first ballots for the 2014 CMAO awards have been mailed. I want to thank all of the artists that sent in their submissions. It’s really impressive to see the amount of talent we have here in Ontario. I want to thank the nomination committee for all the hard work and volunteer hours they committed to get the first ballot ready for the members.

The CMAO has agreed to partner with the Unison Benevolent Fund – $2 from every 2014 CMAO Awards Show ticket sold will be donated to this worthy cause. The Unison Benevolent Fund is a non-profit organization that provides counselling, emergency relief, and benefit programs for those in the Canadian music community who face personal or professional challenges due to hardship, illness, unemployment or economic difficulties. Visit http://unisonfund.ca to learn more.

The case for the missing award has been solved. Autumn Hill was one of the winners of the 2013 CMAO Rising Star award, but their award went missing right after the show. We have been on a long quest trying to figure out where it went. I thought for sure it would turn up 50 years from now in a foreign cartel’s house along with many other exotic stolen collectibles. When we gave up hope, it showed up at the CMAO office unexpectedly. If you want to find out what journey the award has been on, visit www.cmaontario.ca …and buy your tickets for the 2014 Awards show to see Autumn Hill perform live.

I want to thank Peter Linseman for putting together another DemoRama Live, which took place in Barrie, ON at the Sticky Fingers Bar and Grill, with special guest panelists Kate Todd, KICX 106 Program Director & Morning Announcer Jack Latimer, and Wellcraft Music owner Taylor Abram. I want to thank all the panelists for taking the time out of their busy schedules to help us out.

The CMAO is very lucky to have Slaight Music as the presenting sponsor for the 2014 CMAO Awards. Not only have they contributed funds to allow us the opportunity to present this great event, but Derrick Ross, the President of Slaight Music, has been putting in his own time working with the CMAO in developing relationships with other partners. Derrick is an absolute superstar!

Thank you for the continued support.
