A Message From The President

And The Award Goes To……..

Yes, the Board of Directors has been working diligently toward putting your inaugural awards show together for you.  It has been a long and difficult process to determine which awards we should give out in the first year.  We recognize that there are many additional awards to be considered for future years, but for our first show, we want the focus to be on providing as many performance opportunities as possible.

I am pleased to announce that the following awards will be given out at the inaugural CMAO Awards (yet to be given an official name) at The Markham Theatre on May 28, 2013 are:

  • Female Vocalist
  • Male Vocalist
  • Group or Duo
  • Rising Star
  • Single of the Year
  • Songwriter of the Year
  • Album of the Year
  • Radio Station Major Market
  • Radio Station Secondary Market
  • Canadian Artist of the Year – (final name of award to be decided)

We will be finalizing the eligibility criteria for each award at our upcoming July Board meeting and will be announcing this information shortly.  The eligibility period for nominations is January 1, 2009 – November 30, 2012.  This is a one-time period that extends over more than 12 months to enable all CMAO members who have released a recording since the inception of the CMAO to have the opportunity to have their recording(s) nominated.  In future years, there will be a 12 month window to define recordings that will be eligible for nomination.  Nominees must also be a member of the CMAO in good standing to be eligible to receive an award.

I would like to thank all of you who took the time to respond to our survey regarding which awards we should begin with.  The categories mentioned above are those that received the most recommendations.  We will, however, be looking to expand this list in future years.  But as previously stated, we want this to be a performance-driven awards show and therefore are recognizing that we will have work to do for future years.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. Keep checking our website for more updates and information about the good work being done by the CMAO.
