Olivia Mae Graham discovered her love for music at the tender age of eleven when she first picked up a guitar. Her favourite childhood memories are of her parents shuffling her to and from music lessons, supporting her passion. Olivia continued to pursue this love for music through education at the Harris Institute for the Arts, where she graduated Valedictorian, with an Honours Music Business Professional Certification. She then obtained her Master of Songwriting in Scotland. At the core of her artistry is a desire to uplift and empower others through the positive messages woven into her heartfelt lyrics. He later moved to Orillia, Ontario where he first worked as a barber, and then pursued a singing career, initially performing with the local group, The Fairlanes, singing Country and Gospel music. By the early 1970s, Con Archer headed up his own group, “The Sundowners”, and began his recording career, which would see him release seven albums and a series of nationally-charted hit singles. It was a full house of celebration and new music last month as The Western Swing Authority hosted a release party for their brand-new album “12 to 6 Central” at the Registry Theatre in their hometown of Kitchener. Despite it being their fifth full length album, it was the first time they performed on an actual release date. It was a special day, as they were supported by many fans, friends and family. The seven-piece band is comprised of some of Canada’s most sought-after musicians, who have been performing together for 15 years. SPOTLIGHT ON JESSICA SEVIER My guest for this month’s column is Jessica Sevier! Since her debut single “Ghost of Tom” in 2019, Jessica’s music has been collectively streamed over 1 million times. SPOTLIGHT ON PAIGE RUTLEDGE My guest for this month’s column is Paige Rutledge! Paige got her first break on stage at The Moonshine Cafe at a very young age and continues to perform there to this day in songwriters rounds. Along with playing her original songs at the legendary Oakville venue, you’d be lucky to be there on the nights when she covers the Dolly classic “Jolene”. CMAOntario Artist of the Month: Amanda Keeles London, Ontario’s Amanda Keeles new album release and tour is counting down for the launch pad in February 2024. Considering that Amanda is a two-time winner of The Canadian Open Singing/Songwriting Contest, her debut single, “Blame it on the Moonlight” (released January 30, 2023), peaked in the top 10 at #6 on the Canadian Country Indie Top 100 Chart and “My Heart Feels The Same Way Too” has accumulated over 73K streams since its release in May of 2023, her forthcoming album, titled “Can’t Stop Me Now”, sure sounds like a “Just try it” challenge! He is recognized as being among the first pedal steel guitar players on the Canadian music scene and has long been an influence on many of the steel guitar players who have since come on stream. As a teenager, Ollie Strong first performed with a local group, The Humber River Ranch Boys, which also included his sister, Edna (Richardson). Later, he was a member of the Chuck Joyce Ramblers, where he worked square dances and social events. In 2023, along with my monthly songwriters’ series, Country Nights In The City, at the Moonshine Cafe in Oakville, I created two new series. The Heart Of Country Songwriters Showcase took place 5 times last year at the Rec Room at Square One in Mississauga. Nashville 416 Writers Round will travel around to various Toronto venues, which so far have included The Cameron House & The Dakota Tavern. “Sold Out Show at The Moonshine Cafe” Along with bringing back artists who have become part of the roster, it’s always exciting for me to showcase an artist that is new to our music community and, in some cases, playing their first writers’ round.
