Country music has split into several new and exciting directions over the last few years. For anyone patiently awaiting a break from the “Bro-country” and a return to the more traditional approach, your prayers have been answered by Kyle Dunn.
Dunn, who grew up on a hobby farm, experienced his fair share of the country life before finally taking the plunge, when years of songwriting led him to Nashville in early 2015. Dunn teamed up with some of the best names in Music City to craft his unique and refreshing sound. His debut single, “Bootlegger’s Prayer”, recorded at Beaird Studios in Nashville, boasted slick production and A-list players, landing him as a 2015 semi-finalist in CBC’s Searchlight contest. With the buzz surrounding his first single still echoing, the Kingston, Ontario native laid it all on the line to return to Beaird in Nashville in the summer of 2015 and complete his full debut EP, “City Lights.”
Released in August 2015, “City Lights” is a high energy collection of endearing and catchy songs that solidify Dunn’s different, but familiar approach to country-classic, without losing excitement or romance. Brimming with slick electric lines, stunning steel and driving drums, tracks like “Open Road”, “Fireflies” and “Bootlegger’s Prayer” will have you tapping your toes and singing along before you even realize you know all the words.
Dunn isn’t just a great performer and writer; he’s sure to be a country heartbreaker with his well-branded boy-next-door image. On the horizon for this breakthrough artist is a second EP, for which he will be returning to Nashville to work on this summer. As well, several high profile gigs will be sure to increase Dunn’s already-growing fan following. He will be opening for George Canyon this month, and will be opening for Doc Walker later on this summer. Keep your eyes on this star on the rise by following his journey on social media:
