Artist of the Month: Karli June

From small town Listowel, Ontario, all the way to the 2016 Canadian Country Music Association Diamonds in the Rough Showcase, Karli June has come a long way!

The familiar story of singing at church took a turn for Karli, with a win at the Ontario Open Country Singing Contest and a Top 10 finish at the Ontario Youth Talent Search, adding fuel to the fire that started when she was just a little girl, and pushing her toward a career in country music. Since then, Karli June has worked with some of the brightest and most talented people in Canadian country, including CMAO and CCMA award winner, Jason Barry. Barry worked with Karli to produce her debut single, Black & White, which hit Canadian radio in February of this year.

Like many in her generation, Karli June was captivated and inspired by Shania Twain, but don’t think that she’s out here trying to copy the iconic country star. Karli’s style is all her own. With a mix of traditional country and more modern influences, she has managed to find her own voice, and with the release of her second single, Setting Me On Fire, she’s showing country music fans a little more of what she’s got… and she’s whetting appetites for more music.

With an Honours Bachelor of Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, Karli has a strong base under her as she moves deeper into her career in country music. And with her excellent work on social media (you’re missing out if you’re not following her right now) and live shows, she will no doubt be adding new fans to her base, and gaining the experience that will lead her to the next level.

Ontario’s women in country have been pushing forward with all kinds of talent and fire in recent years, and Karli June deserves to stand right beside the rest of her peers. Do not be surprised when you start hearing her name more and more on your radio and at shows in your area.

In fact, country music fans can catch Karli June in Cambridge at the Tim Horton Onondaga Farms Barn Dance on September 17, and in Wellesley at the Apple Butter and Cheese Festival on September 24, with more dates to come.

To learn more about Karli, listen to her music, see her photos and more, be sure to visit her website and social media channels for updates!
